GTO Project - Part 9

That wraps up the bulk of the external bodywork related work (for now) so time to re-assemble the car.

Before putting the bumper back on i needed to run a new cable down to the number plate light cluster.  The existing cable had two redundant wires, and was wrapped with terrible brittle plastic wrap, so that all got ripped out.  I replaced the cable with a nice tidy twin-core cable (yes its white as that's all i had bit it will be hidden) and ran it through the rubber grommet.  At this point i noticed that the grommet was fractured.  For now I have oriented it so this hole is on the bottom.  This should limit exposure.  Moving forward I will look at either repairing it (with a inner-tube repair) or replace it, if i can find one.

The rear bumper itself went back on fairly easily.  Now I know where all the screws go etc, they all pop back into place without issue except for the one bumper bolt that sheered off.  As the bumper is held on with about 18 bolts, losing one shouldn't be an issue.  I also added extra plastic push-clips to the underside of the bumper as these were missing, so now its all very secure.

One problem that re-surfaced was the lack of a mud-flap mounting mechanism.  The old spacers and bolts sheered off when removing them so for now I have made do with just securing the bumper and splash guard.  At some point I will figure out a way of mounting the mudflaps properly.
